ACOPA Shoe Sizing Info:

Traditionally a climber's climbing shoe size has been 1 to 2 or more sizes below his street shoe size. This sizing difference exists because historically rock climbing shoe manufacturers size the shoes according to conventional sizing charts, which are designed to assign a size number to a foot in its flat/standing position. Obviously, a climbing shoe accommodates the foot in a "crunched" climbing position thereby causing a dilemma for the climbing shoemaker. Use the "normal" size comparison chart or assign a larger number that "represents" one's street size. I have chosen the latter because I feel it makes it easier to identify one's climbing shoe size.

Basically it boils down to this. When selecting your appropriate ACOPA rock climbing shoe size, all you need to do is know your US street shoe size (or Brannock measured size) and begin with that size. If you wear a 10 US street, you then select an ACOPA 10 US. Better climbers will still tend to "downsize" no matter what (and are also accustomed to playing around with various sizes in order to get the feel they need). The big advantage of our sizing system comes when sizing beginners or people ordering by mail who may not be familiar with typical climbing shoe sizing problems.
